Man hurt in bypass crash

A MAN was taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after a one-car collision on the city bypass.

The accident happened on the westbound carriageway just after the Dreghorn junction at around 2pm yesterday. The car left the road and struck the embankment.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof from the car and free the man, who was trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour and a half.

A police spokeswoman said the man, thought to be approximately 47 years old, was initially knocked unconscious.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary. Two fire engines from Sighthill attended.
