Conference centre praised for its green achievements

Edinburgh's biggest conference centre has been praised for its green credentials.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre was highly commended in Europe's most demanding test of sustainability, the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Sustainability Good Practice Competition.

It got the commendation for its Plan-it green sustainable events programme, which helps its clients to minimise carbon emissions.

Hans H Rissmann, chief executive at the EICC, said: "Caring for the environment must become an embedded business process in all companies, irrespective of size.

"In the same month, EICC won the Venue Sustainability Award of the Year for Plan-it Green from the Association of Event Organisers."

The EICC is currently in the midst of a major redevelopment that includes a new conference area extension below an office development.
